Jaguar and Burro Burro Adventure
An adventure into the heart of the Pakaraima Mountains and Iwokrama Rain Forest brings you close to natures most incredible treasures, from animals to insects to reptiles to flowers. Your Amerindian guides will introduce you to their way of life and teach you how their communities thrive in these remote regions.


Day 1 - Arrive Guyana
Arrive in Guyana and transfer to Georgetown.

Day 2 - Kaieteur & Orinduik Falls
Day trip to Kaieteur and Orinduik Falls (B,L)

Day 3 - Cross Guyana by road, enter Iwokrama Rain Forest
0800hrs departure by 4x4 for trip to the heart of Guyana. Pass through the mining town of Linden and then into the rainforest of Guyana, to Kurupakari on the Essequibo River. Cross the river to Iwokrama International Centre. Afternoon free to explore the trails around the field station with an Iwokrama Guide. (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Turtle Mountain hike; area exploration and wildlife spotting
Early morning boat trip followed by breakfast. View wildlife on a morning walk with the possibility of seeing various birds, mammals and reptiles. After breakfast, you will leave the river lodge for the journey to Turtle Mountain, and a gentle climb up the mountain to its summit at 935ft (approx. 360m). It takes 1 ¾ hours to walk up the mountain, but the effort is more than worth it for the breathtaking views over the forest canopy when you get there. The rest of the afternoon will be spent exploring the area near to the Turtle Mountain Satellite Camp. (B,L,D)


Day 5 - Travel along Essequibo River to Iwokrama River Lodge
After breakfast, you will travel back to the River Lodge along the Essequibo River, with the chance to see assorted wildlife. Spend the rest of the morning on a wildlife walk near the river lodge with an Iwokrama Guide. The afternoon is free for you to relax, and then after dinner, take a boat ride to spot caiman and other nocturnal wildlife in the river after dark. (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Dawn jaguar drive; visit Iwokrama Canopy Walkway
Before dawn transfer along the trails to seek the elusive Jaguar. The Iwokrama forest is rapidly gaining an international reputation for its healthy jaguar populations that seem not to be troubled by the appearance of curious humans. No promises, but many have been lucky! The trip ends at the new canopy walkway, which winds 35M up through the treetops. Observe the wildlife and birdlife from this amazing perspective. After dinner return to the walkway to experience the canopy at night. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Visit Surama Village; hike to Burro Burro river
Experience the dawn chorus, up close, in the canopy top. After breakfast continue by 4x4 to the Amerindian village of Surama. On arrival in Surama receive a welcome from a village counsellor and settle into your accommodation. A local guide will take you on a tour of the village. Visit the local school, medical centre and church along with some of the village houses. In the cool of late afternoon take a three mile walk across the savannah and through the rain forest to the Burro Burro River. Tonight enjoy an educational walk to observe wildlife and experience the mystique of the forest after dark. (B,L,D)


Day 8 - Journey on Burro Burro River, camp on riverbank
Today your guides will paddle you up the Burro Burro River to observe wildlife and birdlife. Stop along the way to swim or take walks into the forest. In the late afternoon watch or join in as your guides construct a camp on river bank. Enjoy a dinner cooked over an open fire before spending the night in your hammock camp. (B,L,D)


Day 9 - Journey on Burro Burro River
Today continue paddling and exploring the Burro Burro River before returning to Carahaa Landing Camp and then walk back to Surama. (B,L,D)

Day 10 - Drive to Annai Village, fly to Georgetown
Morning departure by 4 x 4 for drive to Annai. Lunch at Rock View Lodge before a flight to Georgetown. Overnight at Ariantze Hotel. (B,L)

Day 11 - Depart Guyana
Transfer to Cheddi Jagan International Airport for departing flight. (B)
