Getting Around Guyana

Domestic flights operate out of Eugene F. Correia International Airport, 15 minutes from the centre of Georgetown.

Aircraft

Our flights into the interior employ reliable and safe – but small – single and twin-engine aircraft such as the Cessna C206 (5-passenger), Britten-Norman Islander BN2 (9 passengers) or Cessna Caravan C208 (13 passengers) aircraft. If you’re lucky, you might even get to sit upfront with the pilot! You will need to pack light! In Guyana, the weight limit included in your ticket is 20 pounds (9kg) on scheduled internal flights, and you will be asked to stand on a scale with your bags and all accessories before being allowed to board the aircraft. Additional baggage can often be carried for a small additional charge.

Road

Once you get outside Georgetown and the coastal region, most roads are unpaved or tracks through the rainforest and savannah. So, expect bumpy and dusty transfers, but also great opportunities to spot birds and wildlife on the way. Vehicles will range from comfortable air-conditioned minibuses or Land Cruisers through to road-weary Land Rovers and twin-cab Toyotas. In some locations, your transport might even be in an ex-military Bedford Truck. Its all part of the adventure!

River

With so few roads the rivers are often the main highways into the remote corners of Guyana. Far more than a transfer, they are part of the journey and reveal fantastic scenery and wildlife viewing. Rivers range from the Essequibo, 21 miles wide at the mouth through to small creeks and accordingly, the vessels used vary greatly. From jet-boats to indigenous dug-out canoes and everything in between, the river travel offer an exciting element to every trip.
