Baganara Island Resort

Baganara Island Resort

Baganara Island is one of the 365 islands located on the mighty Essequibo River and is the perfect spot to unwind, relax, and enjoy water sports and interesting excursions. Its 187 acres are covered with lush green foliage, colourful tropical flowers, a sandy beach and is home to sloths and a variety of birds.

Several activities are available including canoeing, fishing, kayaking, and boat trips to neighbouring Parrot Island, where you can observe hundreds of parrots returning to roost in the evenings. The island is perfectly located for short excursions to the mining town of Bartica, the remains of the Dutch fort at Kyk-Over-Al and Marshall Falls.

Baganara Island Resort has comfortable rooms with ensuite bathrooms overlooking the river. A large veranda runs along the length of the building, showcasing the perfect vista for your morning coffee. The main house is open-sided creating a lovely breezy sitting area with views to the river and gardens and includes the dining room where delicious home-cooked meals are served. Just a few steps away the sand beach leads to a river swimming spot and in the evening becomes a romantic and intimate setting with a beach bonfire.

Baganara Island is one of three hundred and sixty-five islands in the mighty Essequibo River located five miles south of the town of Bartica. It is perfectly located for short excursions to the mining town of Bartica, the remains of the Dutch fort at Kyk-Over-Al and Marshall Falls. The island proximity to Georgetown and their private airstrip allows for both day visits and overnight stays, which can also be combined with a visit to Kaieteur Falls.

a gem of a resort Baganara is hidden gem. Excellent service and excellent local dishes and a very good service. The resort is situated on its own island, with plenty of open spaces to wander and explore. The beach is sandy and nice for strolling too. I wouldn't dare to try swimming in the muddy river, but they are now building a pool. The property has various activities listed and the guides do a great job.
Getting to Baganara is an adventure in itself, and i would suggest using the river route.

Brilliant time at Baganara Beautiful views, excellent food - an ideal place to chill as a couple, solo, with friends or family. Paul was an excellent host and made us feel right at home. We had a great time exploring nearby wildlife by boat as well as chilling in a hammock reading. A great contrast to Georgetown and entry point into the interior. A must see whilst in Guyana!
