Anaula Nature Resort

Unexpected adventure and comfort in the rainforest

Anaula offers guests the opportunity to fully unwind in a natural setting, or explore countless natural and cultural wonders in the vicinity of this secluded lodge.

Anaula Nature Resort is located in the Upper Suriname area on an island in the Ferulasi region. During your stay you can relax and unwind in the stunning natural setting. Or you can take part in various activities such as cultural workshops, forest walks, canoe trips or visit the local population. The pristine rainforest, turbulent rapids, beautiful flora and fauna, idyllic islands and the fascinating Maroon culture make for a truly unforgettable experience.

Getting Here

The resort is nestled in thick rainforest in the Upper-Suriname basin roughly 100km south of Paramaribo. The resort is accessible by road, requiring a 4.5 hour vehicle journey from Paramaribo, plus a one-hour boat trip. Most people choose to arrive by small aircraft to save time, a 45 minute journey from Zorg en Hoop to the nearby Ladoani airstrip.

Anaula was a wonderful experience. My three year old was perfectly safe and happy at this resort. The swimming pool was out of commission while we were there, but no one in the family minded, due to the spot we found in the river where we could sit for hours. The tours organized by the resort are a bit much for a little one, so I only did the zula tour and it was amazing. The rooms/cabins are well maintained with good beds and mosquito nets. It gets a bit warm but that is to be expected this time of the year. There is also wifi available, a playground, unlimited non alcoholic drinks and the food is wonderfully very local. This resort is an absolute must if you are not the rustic, primitive camping kind of person! (see more)

We spent three days on this small island which is very relaxing although we were lucky to only have a small number of people on the island the time we visited. I feel that with up to the 50 people they can take it would have become a very different experience. The program of activities is fixed and doesn’t allow for any flexibility – it includes relaxing in the river, a walk round the local Moroon village, a local drumming evening (although the villagers didn’t look like they wanted to be performing) and then guided walks around the island. There is only one trail which means that if other’s are around the wildlife may be limited. We saw a few different birds and some monkeys but little else. The accommodation was lovely – your own little lodge with balcony – ask for ones further away from the communal area and with a balcony view over the river. Food was sourced with local ingredients and there was always a free supply of cold and hot drinks. Bring books to fill in the downtime.
