Palumeu is a special place to explore Suriname’s nature and meet its Amerindian people
Spectacular birding, wildlifespotting, and homestyle hospitality await you – and so does Kasikasima
Palumeu Jungle Lodge, close to an Amerindian village bearing the same name, is situated along the upper Tapanahony River, in the midst of the Amazon rainforest. This is an ideal getaway for nature lovers. The walk and climb to “Poti Hill”, which offers a breathtaking view over the river and mountaintops of the southern part of Suriname, beneath, will remain in your memory forever. In this part of the tropical rainforest, where howler monkeys and birds announce daybreak, the impressive rapids, flora and fauna of the Amazon rainforest and the current lifestyle of the Amerindian tribes, the Trio and Wajana, will surely fascinate you. Palumeu is recommended for all those who wish to enjoy the pristine rainforest and to learn more about the culture of Suriname’s Amerindians.
Most people visiting Palumeu arrive by plane, a short 1 hour flight from Zorg en Hoop in Paramaribo. Your GUMAir flight may stop at Kajana to drop off and pick up Awarradam guests as well. Click the VIDEO tab to watch a soggy approach and landing on the grass airstrip at Palumeu!
You will eat, play and sleep 5 days long. The food is great, the staff is great, the activities were great and the accomodation is nice too. All the wooden houses enjoying, one by one, the stunning view over the river. Allmost everynight I fell asleep by the noises of the howler monkeys. Our tour guides, named Julius and Espano, could tell us much about their culture, their way of living and about the surrounding nature.
