International Travelers Treated to Guyana Rum Promotion

International Travelers Treated to Guyana Rum Promotion

Guyana Press News Service | 01-April-2014
GEORGETOWN – At a press conference this morning, Demerara Distillers Ltd. (DDL) chairman Dr. Yesu Persaud announced that his company will give away free bottles of its flagship 15-year old El Dorado rum to passengers departing on flights from Chedi Jagan International Airport.
The promotion scheme will run from today, 01 April, through the end of 2014. Persaud says DDL expects that over 15,000 bottles of free rum will be given away as part of the colorful promotion.
The pilot program, dubbed “Fly High From Guyana” is intended to introduce a wider audience to the craft aged rums that have won the company international recognition for decades.
Representatives from Caribbean Airlines, Fly Jamaica Airways, and Liat Airlines were on hand to toast the announcement and confirmed that the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority had supplied a temporary waiver allowing flight attendants to serve El Dorado rum beverages as soon as passengers board the aircraft.
Persaud spoke to a packed meeting room at Cara Lodge this morning and said that there’s more at stake for his company than brand awareness. “DDL is one of the greenest distilleries in the world, using CO2 capture to supply our aerated beverage plant and methane digesters to power 100% of our plant operations.”

“Guyana’s tourism sector is considered one of the greenest in the world: we want Guyana’s manufacturing sector to be similarly recognized,” he said.

Representatives at DDL confirmed that Pepsi products will be offered to minors and those who prefer not to consume alcohol.

Demerara Distillers is an internationally recognised producer of award-winning rums with a range of over 20 different varieties of premium, standard and speciality products, all with the distinctive Demerara ‘stamp’ of quality and flavour. DDL also bottles Pepsi, 7-up, Slice, and other carbonated beverages for the domestic market.

Wilderness Explorers – a leader in Guyana’s international tourist market – gleefully accepted the good news and said it was perhaps one of the best developments since last year’s April 1 announcement of  air conditioned gondola service linking Georgetown to the lodges of the Iwokrama Rain Forest.
