Waikin Ranch

Waikin Ranch

Waikin Ranch sits on the gently undulating tropical wetlands of the North Rupununi, close to the town of Lethem and the border of Brazil. The vast grasslands are crisscrossed by creeks flanked by Ite palms and in the distance, the Kanuku Mountains rise from the savannah.

Waikin is a small working ranch farming cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, fish plus an orchard and vegetable gardens. You can join the kitchen team in the gardens to select your own fruit and vegetables for the wonderful farm-to-table cuisine experience or fish in the ponds for your dinner.

Four spacious cabins overlook the gardens and feature glass doors that fold back to open onto a wrap-around veranda, perfect for relaxing in your hammock. The bathrooms feature open-to-the-sky shower and solar-power allows a fan-cooled bedroom.

A short walk from the cabins is a lovely swimming hole to escape the heat. Your guide can take you on an easy walk to birdwatch around the grounds. Or live the ranch experience by heading out on horseback with the vaqueros as they take the cattle out to pasture.

Dawn across the savannah is cool and golden in the first rays of the sun. This magical setting is even more special if enjoyed by horseback and even more so if you are lucky enough to spot a giant anteater. Your ride can end with a cowboy-style breakfast with a vista of the savannah leading to the distant horizon.

Waikin Ranch sits on the gently undulating tropical wetlands of the North Rupununi, close to the town of Lethem and the border of Brazil. Numerous flights daily land at Lethem and it is only a 25-minute drive to the ranch.
