Saddle Mountain Ranch is tucked away in the South Rupununi with spectacular views overlooking pristine natural savannahs intertwined with creeks emerging from the nearby mountains. The family run business has a rich history of ranching, farming and vaquero culture.
Your adventure starts as you cross the vast tropical grasslands, passing through indigenous villages and skirting the biodiversity rich Kanuku Mountains. At Saddle Mountain Ranch you will enjoy the legendary Rupununi hospitality from the friendly Kenyon family and you will quickly feel part of the family.
The accommodation is simple ranch style cabins with a bedroom and an ensuite bathroom, and also has an open verandah where you can relax in the gentle breeze in a hammock. The two cabins are made of traditional local materials of hand-made clay bricks and a thatched roof of palm leaves. Ranch style meals are served in the main house and enjoyed with the family and enhanced by stories of their life in this remote corner of Guyana.
Your days will be filled with opportunities to explore the natural surroundings and learn about ranch life. You can join the vaqueros riding out across the savannah as they tend to the cattle or hike with a guide along the trails. You may want to learn how to throw a lasso, crack a bullwhip or have a lesson in using a traditional bow and arrow.
