Rock View Lodge

Rock View Lodge

Rock View Lodge is located in the extensive tropical wetlands of the Rupununi, set in a lush tropical garden landscape, amidst several Amerindian communities. This oasis in the savannah accommodates guests in a comfortable, spacious self-contained room with hammock slung verandas overlooking the garden. Meals are served family-style in the company of your host who will share stories of local life.

Relax by the lovely natural-form pool in the gardens, snooze in a hammock in the shade of a tree or enjoy the afternoon breeze from the rocky outcrop overlooking Macarapan Mountain. The family ranch house features a wonderful eclectic selection of art and a library.

A unique Rock View activity is observing cashews being slowly roasted over an open fire or take a leisurely hike through the foothills of the Pakaraima Mountains, to see dawn rising over the savannah.

Rock View Lodge is nestled at the foothills of the Pakaraima Mountains on the Rupununi savannah and sits in the centre of several indigenous communities. It is conveniently located close to the main road connecting Georgetown and Lethem and only a few paces from the Annai airstrip.

Exceptionally Pleasant Location, Charming Hosts. The only thing amiss with our visit to Rock View Lodge was that we only stayed for one night. Our prior schedule had gone awry & our stop here was arranged at short notice. . The Lodge is in Annai , adjacent to the airstrip & yet feels quite remote as you are in the midst of lovely grounds filled with trees & flowers. . The guest accommodation which is in 2 blocks of 4 rooms is extremely comfortable/cosy with all the facilities one would expect & fronted by covered verandahs with chairs & tables. . The sprawling gardens contain a swimming pool, fish ponds, many mature trees, quiet spots to relax & a mound which winds up through thick growth to reach a little circular viewpoint which commands far reaching views over the airstrip & beyond. . Our host, Colin is charming & made us very welcome. He is a mine of information & a great stalwart of the Rupununi region. He has built up Rock View Lodge from a virtually " blank canvas " to the lovely location that it has now become. . Dining takes place communally . The food was top notch & served with much style & panache. . In addition to all the above, Rock View Lodge has it's own small shop & bar which are not only available to guests but serve the local community. . A very pleasant interlude in the evening... . A very pleasant interlude in the evening was an invitation to partake of rum & lime drinks with nibbles upstairs with Colin.
. We only had time for an afternoon & early morning Bird watching session in the grounds of Rock View but many excursions are possible including a visit to a Guyanan Cock of the Rock lek. I should imagine there are numerous activities possible as Colin has extensive knowledge of the region.
. We saw plenty of Macaws & Parrots in the grounds & some Toucans.
. Incidentally, the resident guide, Hendricks is excellent. More

Extremely thankful to Colin and Andrica of Rock View Lodge I am extremely thankful to Colin and Andrica as they extended substantial help to me arranging the cost-effective motorcycle rides near Annai in Guyana, even if I did not stay at the lodge. They replied to my emails very fast and was able to find me the lowest cost ride from Annai which is nearby Rock View to Karanambu. When there was a problem (driver did not come), Andrica helped me contact the driver. They were also able to help me find a ride from Karanambu to Lethem, though I did not get to use it due to communication problems. Without their help, my travel in Annai would be a lot more expensive and may encounter a lot of troubles. I hope I could visit the lodge to express my thanks next time.

Very comfortable and welcoming lodge We spent 3 days and nights in this lodge, 6 of us, and had a wonderful time. The owner, Colin Edwards, greeted us and he and his staff made us very welcome. The Rupununi style of Lodge with individual separate comfortable rooms and a communal Dining/ living area in the middle of nowhere was exactly what we had, with the central lodge a real central meeting place. Delicious food and local rum was very welcome. We loved the swimming pool which was very welcome after our explorations. The Lodge is obviously the center of the community, employing locals with special mention to the super guide Henrik and his wife who was incredibly efficient. A highlight was visiting Henrik's village. sharing Republic Day with the village and a trip up the mountain to Henrik's farm where his wife showed us how to prepare cassava and we saw all the things he grew, cassava, bananas, peppers, corn and much more. We watched cashew nuts being roasted and generally loved being there. Thank you Colin for making our stay so memorable
